Step 2: Download Critical Updates
Keep your operating system up to date.
Download and install critical updates for your OS. Check for new updates on a weekly basis or set your computer to download updates automatically. These free updates include fixes, patches and service packs.
Windows users, please visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.
Some updates or service packs may require that you download and install them separately from other updates. In this case, download and install the required update. After the installation is complete and the computer has rebooted (if necessary), return to Windows Update and install the remaining critical updates.
Windows XP should prompt you to download new updates as they become available from Microsoft. You can find technical support for Microsoft products at
http://support.microsoft.com.
Apple and Macintosh users can find information at http://www.info.apple.com.
